Saint Gertrude holds 102nd Commencement May 30

Saint Gertrude celebrates the 49 members of the Class of Navy & Gold.

As "Pomp and Circumstance," played by a classical ensemble, rang out, the class of Navy and Gold processed in two by two in front of family and friends gathered in their honor at the McMurtrie-Reynolds Pavilion. Preceding them had been the class of '75, honored jubilarians, who had returned to the school as part of their 50th reunion year celebration.

Catherine Curley Murphy '75 addressed the class, sharing some of the important life lessons she and her classmates had learned since their graduation.

Other speakers during the ceremony included Sister Cecilia O.S.B., Mrs. Amy Pickral, Head of School of Saint Gertrude, and Mr. Jesse Grapes, President of the Benedictine Schools of Richmond. Members of the Class of Navy & Gold delivering speeches included Valedictorian Lydia Stumpf, and Salutatorian Maia Jones.

The Class of Navy & Gold's 49 graduates Gators were accepted into 95 different colleges and universities, and matriculated to 22 of them.

Other touching and memorable aspects of the Commencement ceremony were class members performing a song from this year's Song Contest medley, and the exits after each graduate had received her diploma from Mrs. Pickral. Each pair or trio had choreographed their exit in their own style, expressing warmth, joy, and plenty of personality.
